From Zebras to Yaks

A 36 hour train ride from China to Tibet inspired this painting.  At an elevation of 14,000 feet, the landscape took on an eerie lunar appearance.  The cold and isolation was even more striking as I sipped tea in the dining car.  Every so often, I would see a lone herder with a few grazing yaks.
